Featured Quilt - First Place Two Person Quilts at the 2023 Festival of Quilts Birmingham
It's true what they say that two heads are better than one, as evidenced by Elizabeth Richardson and Mary Mayne, whose quilt Baltimore Variations took home First Place in the Two Person Quilts at the 2023 Festival of Quilts in Birmingham.
This beautiful Baltimore Album quilt was created through Elizabeth and Mary's dedication to their craft, as they so matter-of-factly put in their artist statement. "Hand applique is my main passion, this quilt was a real challenge."

Diane Harris Lets the Fabric Do the Work
See The Stash Bandit at Work
Diane Harris discusses how the act of sewing a few simple windmill blocks at the end of every workday led to thousands of little blocks and the spark of a big
idea. How many different designs can be created using just one block? Diane says it’s all about letting the fabric do the work. She then shares tips for working with a limited color palette, grouping blocks of colors together on a contrasting background, creating large floating shapes, or bold borders.

Communities Coming Together Through Quilting
Presented by the SAQA,"In 2014, Maria Shell was an artist-in-residence at the McColl Center for Art + Innovation in Charlotte, North
Carolina. There, she worked weekly with a formerly chronically homeless community now living in Moore Place. She developed a relationship with the Moore Place residents by teaching them basic sewing skills. This led to making a community quilt that celebrated the residents and their journey toward finding a home and a community. Since then, Maria has collaborated with communities and organizations across the US, helping them build quilts and share their stories.""
Register today and watch when this episode airs this Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 2 PM EDT.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Fix That Overflowing Stash

"Critical (Stash) Mass" by Karla Alexander
Critical (Stash) Mass is named after the phenomena that Karla experiences, and we're sure other quilters do too, when her studio is overflowing with scraps and it's time to start buying containers for fabric, thus reaching critical mass. So instead of getting the containers to store the scraps she used them to make this quilt. This quilt is a variation of one of the quilts featured in Karla's book, Color Shuffle: New Quilts from Karla Alexander.
