Featured Quilt - Traveling To a First Place Win

Spirit of Adventure by Paula Steel won First Prize - Modern Quilts at the 2022 Birmingham Festival of Quilts. On what inspired her to make the quilt, Paula had this to say, "Thinking about travelling post Covid and taking inspiration from Art Deco travel posters; I wanted to create a quilt with both movement and clean graphical lines. The fabrics used reflect the oversaturated colours of the posters and hint at a tropical paradise passing by."

The judges at the Festival of Quilts were quite generous in their praise for Paula's quilt as well, saying, '"This quilt is unanimously chosen as the winning category quilt. It has strong visual impact expressing dynamic movement. It shows excellent workmanship. The quilting enhances the design."
Transform Your Quilting Today with Bonnie Hunter and Julie Cefalu
Have a lot of scraps? (Who doesn't?) Bonnie Hunter is going to show you how to use up the very last of your scraps to create useable quilt blocks using her String Piecing with Paper (technique) - Show 1410 Click on Chapter 3. This technique will really help you clean up your scrap bin.

And, remember it is important to label your quilts. But sometimes there just isn't enough time, so Julie Cefalu will show you some ways to make Quick Quilt Labels (tip). From markers to appliqué you'll find these labels are fast and fun to make.

Candace Hassen Shows You How to Make A-Mazing Quilts
You Won't Get Lost In The Maze Making This

Inspired by a jellyroll race at a quilt retreat, Candace Hassen designed a pattern combining  2 ½” and 1 ½” strip sets. The resulting maze of a quilt is a variation on the traditional Log Cabin block. See how Candace did is in our brand new show, and also get some troubleshooting tips as well.

"Sidewalk Cafe" by Susan K. Cleveland

Sidewalk Cafe presents a bird's eye view of a street cafe, with the awning to the left and umbrellas to the right. Susan used a simple technique to create the "double star" effect in her quilt, utilizing a ruler, some stripes, and some marking. The quilting was done by Lauren Vlcek.
