Nocturne by Mayumi Ishii won First Place - Hand Quilted Quilts at AQS QuiltWeek Grand Rapids 2022. Hand pieced, hand appliquéd, hand embellished, hand embroidered, and hand quilted, Mayumi elegantly wrote her artist statement for the quilt in the form of a poem:

Like a shining jewel...

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Renew Your Interest in Quilting
"Renewal" by Rayna Gillman

Renewal is one in a series of strip quilts that Rayna created. It was made after a period when she taught and wrote a book on printing and became tired of the subject. After a year of teaching printing, she went to her friend and asked, "Now what?" And her friend told her, "When all else fails, sew strips." So Rayna sat down, sewed strips, and created three fabulous and dynamic strip quilts, of which Renewal was the third.
