Featured Quilt - So Many Flying Geese
Celtic Migrationby Angela Petrocelli, stopped us in our tracks at the Houston International Quilt Festival in 2018...or maybe we should say, stopped us mid-flight. This quilt has 7,924 Flying Geese blocks, some the size of a thumbnail. It took Angela a bit over two years to complete. Angela's quilt won 3rd Place Pieced - Large Quilts and was exhibited in the Pieced, Large category at the show.
The SAQA 2021 Benefit Auction is divided into three sections with a new section open each Monday until October 3, 2021. Starting tomorrow, Monday September 20, 2021 (2pm EDT), Section 2 will open for bidding. Get ready to jump on another round of beautiful quilts that will support a great cause.

New Fall Exhibitions at San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles
Two New Exhibits, One Great Museum
The San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles in San Jose, California has some brand new exhibits debuting this Fall that all quilters will want to check out. First, Layered & Stitched: 50 Years of Innovative Art showcases "50 art quilts by renowned master artists around the globe" and More Impact: Climate Change, which "features tapestries from members of Tapestry Weavers West that reflect on our changing global environment".
Why use a design wall? Because your quilt will come out better! This Creative Grid Design Wall Fabric gives you the opportunity to view your project as a whole from a few feet away, and helps to spot color and design imbalances. It is also great for auditioning fabrics and block placements!
The Quilt Show Puzzle: Hand Stitched, Full of Fabric
"Dormition Cathedral" by Natalya Khorover
Dormition Cathedral is a quilt on canvas full of a different variety of fabrics. Natalya says it is a collage that she hand stitched and then put the fabrics back together to create the image. There is a bit of machine stitching to hold everything together, with all of the embellishments done by hand stitching.
The great thing about watching The Quilt Show is that once you learn a topic from one of our guests, you will have that information for the rest of your quilting life. You can come back to it time and time again and use those skills in different ways across many different quilts. It's just another way to recycle, but this time you're recycling knowledge! (Or you can actually recycle too, like how Ricky recycles jeans into a quilt in our brand new show.)
