Featured Quilt - From The Bells of Notre Dame

There are works of art that will always inspire more great art. One such piece is the North Rose window at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. Michelle Bardwell was so taken with the piece that she decided to make her own version of it, and thus her quilt, Cathedral Rose, was born. Featured in the Pictorial category at Houston 2018, Michelle writes of her work, "This quilt is my interpretation of the awe-inspiring rose window at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Silk fabrics were used to help replicate the glow of stained glass. The original window was completed by the grandchildren of the original craftsmen. (Fortunately, my grandchildren are off the hook!)".

Put Together Your Own!

Here's what you need:

  • 2 yards of a variety of light colored fabrics
  • 1/2 yard of a variety of medium colored fabrics
  • 1 1/4 yards of a variety of dark colored fabrics
  • 1/4 yard of fabric (full width, not a fat quarter) for the inner border
  • 1/3 yards for the binding
  • 1 1/4 yards for backing

We recommend that you purchase a fat quarter bundle that you love and add the border, binding, and backing from your stash. Imagine the quilt in watery batiks, contemporary shot cottons, a lovely traditional, or a tonal color story. There are so many opportunities!

"Curious Duck" by Ann P. Shaw

Ann writes about Curious Duck, "Curiosity is a trait we see among many members of the Animal Kingdom……and ducks are no exception. Drawn to the shiny and new, ducks will poke their bills in the darnedest places. This lime green, blue and orange duck couldn’t stay put, deciding to poke at the corner of my quilt."
