Featured Quilt - 1st Place Machine Quilted Bed Size - Appliquéd - Mixed or Other

The spectacularly quilted Andromeda Crossing by Karen Marchetti was awarded 1st Place Machine Quilted Bed Size - Appliquéd - Mixed or Other at The Great Wisconsin Quilt Show 2023.

An original pattern by Karen, it was created using her own ice-dyed mandalas. The background/border fabrics are commercial cottons. Karen writes, "My friend said they looked nebulas. I found a photo of Andromeda...which was spectacular and had the same purple and browns."

Vicki Conley was a Potter for 40 Years and Then...

She Met a Quilter

As a professional potter for forty years, quilting didn’t come into Vicki Conley's life until a piece of her pottery was broken by a neighboring vendor who happened to be a quilter. The vendor was sorry and offered Vicki several quilt patterns in exchange for the damage. Reading through and following the pattern directions she was immediately drawn to quilting. Before long she transitioned into designing her own patterns.  Creating art quilts fed her desire for making art. Watch Vicki's show and see what happened next.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: An Old Technique Made New

"Lotus Blossom II" by Rami Kim

Lotus Blossom II incorporates a technique that Rami learned from her grandmother when she was four years old. She originally learned it using paper, but now utilizes it with fabric. To make one of the blossoms seen on the quilt, you need to have twenty-four squares, so depending on the colors you want to combine you can cut out twelve and twelve, or three sets of eight, and so on. You need two squares to make one petal and then you interconnect all twelve petals to make one blossom.
