Featured Quilt - A Trip Through Nature's Doorway

Our next quilt from Christine Porter's 2020 UK Doorways challenge is Spirit in the Woods from Catherine Millar. Her door design came completely by happenstance as she took a journey to the past. She writes, "The inspiration for the design came from a chance discovery of the ruins of St Luke's Chapel accessible only on foot in woodland near Abbotsbury, Dorset. (Design by Tim Millar from a photograph by Catherine Millar). Only the thirteenth century West end and West Doorway survive today. The title comes from a poem by William Wordsworth."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: What's Old Is New Again
"Broken Dreams" by Rayna Gillman

Broken Dreams was made as part of Rayna's Urban phase of quilts. After her quilt Warsaw 1997, she began to look at all the buildings and cities that were beginning to fall apart and torn up for inspiration. This quilt was inspired by a factory in Lowell, Massachusetts. The place was all boarded up and had a sign that said, "Luxury Lofts Coming". When Rayna saw that she knew what her next piece was going to be. The windows seen throughout the quilt were demo blocks that she made in a printing with found objects class that she taught, with the grids being made from construction fence.
