Imaginary Places III by Carolina Oneto won Third Place - Modern Quilts at the 2023 Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, England. Carolina had this to say about her machine pieced and hand quilted work.
"Dreamy places, imaginary places.Upside down mountains, pinky lakes, many suns, red moons a green sky…. How do you imagine wonderful worlds that may not exist on Earth, but maybe elsewhere?" Our answer? Carolina could only create her dreamlike wonderland through the magic of quilting.

Textile and surface designer Cindy Lohbeck has loved manipulating fabric since her 8th-grade teacher opened her world with fabric dyeing. An entrepreneur with a broad knowledge of color, dye, and textiles, has led to diverse careers as a tie-dye t-shirt vendor at Grateful Dead concerts, a high-end drapery business, interior design, and ultimately as an instructor helping quilters learn how to dye their own fabrics. Cindy shares inventive ways to create your own ombre and ice-dyed tie-dyed fabrics. Plus, Ricky joins in the out-of-the-box ideas with his Loco-Motion curved and precision piecing technique.

"Faces of Pilgrimage" by Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo
On Faces of Pilgrimage, Leslie had this to say about her quilt: "The figures of two Tibetan girls returning from a pilgrimage are hand-stitched with traditional Tibetan appliqué techniques. The background photograph is inkjet printed on pieces of cotton and organza, pieced together, and machine quilted. The shy girl in the background covers her face with a scarf and giggles as the camera snaps, while her bolder friend welcomes the contact."
