Featured Quilt - Houston 2021 Master Award For Thread Artistry
A quilt can be more than just a piece of art, it can have emotional and personal meaning for both the artist and the subject, something that Hollis Chatelain (Show 1207) is very familiar with. Her quilt, Sharing The Moment, won The Superior Threads Master Award For Thread Artistry at Houston 2021 and presents a shared moment of joy between its two subjects.
We'll let Hollis tell the rest. “I believe that African-American women are the matriarchs of their families and communities. They have always been a powerful force in getting their communities to vote. This piece also highlights the fact that African-American women did not receive the right to vote in all 50 states until 1965 when the Voting Rights Act was passed. I met Phyllis at a rally. She enthusiastically agreed to be my model, and brought her friend Loretta with her.”
Textile Talks: Layered & Stitched - Conversations with the Artists
Hear From International Artists
Join the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles for a conversation with international artists featured in the Layered & Stitched: 50 Years of Innovative Art exhibit in an upcoming Textile Talk this October.
Why a longarm? Why a sit down? Alex reveals that she was scared of the Q20 Longarm right after it arrived. She tells what she has learned and describes some of the features she loves as she learns how to use the machine.
Alex will be LIVETODAY, October 6, 2021 @ 10am PST, 1pm EST, and 6pm London time. All classes are recorded so they can be viewed later.

The long eyelashes on the mother giraffe reminded Jamie of his mom. So, Serengeti Son is, in a way, an ode to his mother. And along with the beauty of that thought, there is great beauty in the quilting of the quilt done using Jamie's longarm.
