Featured Quilt - Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Innovative at PIQF 2022

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and it seems that one, in particular, spoke a lot to Thom Atkins, whose quilt, Terraced, won Best Sewing Machine Workmanship - Innovative at the 2022 Pacific International Quilt Festival.

Thom says, "Terraced began as a 3.5" x 3.5" photo of rice gatherers in South Vietnam I found in a magazine. I took the image and stretched it in Photoshop and changed the color from yellow/green to yellow/red shades."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Star That Keeps On Shining
"Tarnished Star" by Robin Long

Tarnished Star has Robin mixing traditional elements with her Mariner's Compasses. She placed the Mariner's Compass in a Lone Star design and added some quarter compasses to surround it. Robin used Tim Holtz's Abandoned collection from FreeSpirit Fabrics to get that antique-inspired look throughout the quilt and provide it with an aged, from-the-past appearance that just gives off a glow when you view it. The quilt "features a fussy cut center medallion nested inside gloriously colored stars and surrounded by pieced diamonds and appliquéd ribbons in a show-stopping queen quilt."
