Featured Quilt - Best Use of Color Innovative at PIQF 2021

How does one represent water in a quilt? If you're Hiroko Fukawa, then the answers is many gold beads and terrific use of color. Her quilt, Memory of Water / KATAKAMUNA, won Best Use of Color in the Innovative category at PIQF 30 and it's not hard to see why. If you'd like to know what the second part of Hiroko's title means, we'll let her explain it herself in addition to her quilt's inspiration. "I designed the water of river, impressed by the fact that water remembers people's emotions. I tried to combine the ancient Japanese characters called KATAKAMUNA from 12000 years ago. Reflection on the water surface is expressed by gold bead stitching."

In The Store - Makers Keep Magnetic Wrist Pin Holder

You'll Be Slap Happy With This

This slap-bracelet style Makers Keep Magnetic Wrist Pin Holder makes "pin wrangling" much easier! Now you don't have to hold your pins in your mouth, stick them in your shirt, or whatever else you do to have them at hand while you work at your design wall. It also makes a quick and convenient spot to put the pins you pull out of your blocks as you sew them, because both hands are right there so you can do it without stopping your stitching.

"Blue Confetti" by Cindy Grisdela

Blue Confetti was one of the first quilts that Cindy made using the freehand curves, no patterns, no templates, cutting method. Cindy says, "In true improvisational style, I had no idea what the finished quilt was going to look like, beyond having four quadrants that create a bullseye effect. Some of the curves are broken up with inset spines so I could add more colors. The confetti squares in the corners, inspired by an oversized confetti canister I saw in a stage play, add unique energy to the final composition."
