Featured Quilt - The Baby Lock Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award at PIQF 2023

If you've heard the name Margaret Solomon Gunn before, then you've probably seen one of her many award-winning quilts. Well, she isn't stopping the awards train any time soon, because she just took home The Baby Lock Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award at PIQF 2023 for her quilt Supraspinatus' Swan Song, which made its debut at the show.

The story behind the quilt is a fascinating one about Margaret's recovery from surgery when she tore her rotator cuff in May 2022. You can read the full story when you see the quilt and click on the About The Quilt tab. But we will let you know how Margaret named the quilt. She says, "The Supraspinatus is the tendon I tore. The name is an ode to how this stupid tendon nearly made me quit quilting."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Stunning Stained Glass Quilt

"Hillside Houses" by Daphne Greig and Susan Purney Mark

Daphne and Susan created Hillside Houses by piecing the background into blocks, sewing the blocks together, and then laying a stained glass grid over the top of it to create the beautiful stained glass window look they were striving for. A little more background from Daphne, she says of the quilt: "Bright houses perched on a hillside are the inspiration for this quilt. You will see these along the coastlines of Italy and Greece and even in Newfoundland. The piece was designed for my book, co-written with Susan Purney Mark, Simple Stained Glass Quilts, Krause Publications, 2008. Our unique "whole cloth" technique makes construction of stained glass quilts easy and less labor-intensive than other methods."
