Featured Quilt - First Place Hand Quilting / Hand Made at Houston 2022

The Houston International Quilt Festival is almost upon us again. But guess what? We already know who the winners are, and we're going to give you a sneak peek at one of them today! Isako Wada's quilt, In the Square Where the Refreshing Breeze is Blowing, won First Place in the Hand Quilting / Hand Made.

This exquisite hand-made wonder was described by Isako as such. "When I traveled abroad, I found a square paved with flagstones. The landscape around the square was beautiful, and I was so impressed. A refreshing breeze blowing through trees and houses made me so relaxed. I expressed my impression of the square in my quilt. I applied my favorite Trip Around the World setting to the stone paved squares, appliquéd the traditional houses around the square, and quilted so that the quilt lines represent the breeze."
The Latest Show with Robin Long & Pam Mahshie Is Here!
Mariner's Compass' and Sergers Are The Point of this Show

Robin Long has been fascinated with the Mariner’s Compass quilt design since 1992 when she made it as a gift for her husband. The idea of simplifying the complex pattern for quilters led to the development of using strip-piecing and rulers to make the construction simpler and less daunting for quilters. Join us as she shares the ins and outs of constructing a block she says is as easy as "pie".

Then, BERNINA Serger Expert Pam Mahshie will have you amazed when you see how the serger can save you time and effort when it comes to piecing, attaching binding, and mimicking big stitch quilting using decorative thread.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: What's Old Is New Again
"Unbridled" by Marty Ornish

For years Marty has been taking one wedding dress a year, disassembling it, and reusing all the parts. For Unbridled, she cut the back off of a damaged wedding dress and made it the centerpiece of this quilt with a focus on the buttons and loops. With the dress portion as the center, Marty then took many other wonderful fabrics and surrounded it to create an art collage quilt.
