Featured Quilt - 1st Runner-Up Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Award at PIQF XXX
It is the twenty-third in her alphabet series of quilts, and she had this to say about it, "The background alphabet fabric in the center is called Lexington. My mom was born in Lexington, Missouri and I think of my mom as the angel watching over me. The motifs were inspired my antique Pennsylvania or German Fracturs. The Siamese cat is our late Siamese cat named Siamese. Machine quilted on a Babylock sewing machine. There are vintage dorset buttons from Czecoslovokia and some hand covered buttons I created. The angel was inspired by tombstones from the 1800's."
It's Friday, so it's time to take another look backstage and see what's going on in this week's upcoming show with Cindy Grisdela, who designs eye-catching contemporary Improv quilts with fabric the way a painter uses paint. Learn from Cindy as she shows how to piece strips and scraps into blocks that fit together like a puzzle, a technique for free-hand cutting curves without templates, how to create variations using insets, and much more!
Watch Cindy in How to Do an Improv Puzzle Quilt and Improv Curved Piecing with Cindy Grisdela, when it debuts this Sunday, October 24, 2021!

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Scientifically Soapy Quilt
"Hawking’s Bubbles II: e=mc2" by Meri Henriques Vahl
While reading an illustrated version of Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time, Meri came across a photo of soap bubbles. In the book, Hawking descibes how there could be many universes, but like soap bubbles, you can't get from one to the other. With that in mind, Meri thought that image would make a crazy quilt. This is Meri's second version of the quilt, Hawking’s Bubbles II: e=mc2, with the first being made three-dimensionally with padding under each bubble.
