Featured Quilt - First Place Innovative at PIQF 2021
Kathy McNeil's art quilts are always a joy to behold, and this one is no different. Her quilt, Spring Harmony, won First Place in the Innovative category at PIQF 30 and features beautiful Machine Piecing and Hand Appliqué. As for what inspires a great work such as this, Kathy says, "Japanese gardens are a feast for our eyes in the spring, Enter thru the Tori gate, sit by the stream, waltz across the bridge and find a place to fall in love again."
The Making of the Best of Show, A Summer Christmas
How Do You Make A Best of Show Quilt?
Did you see the PIQF Best of Show, A Summer Christmas, in our Friday Newsletter? If you did, you're probably wondering how Mariya Waters and Gina Perkes-Tidwell put together such a stunning quilt. Well, Gina has been kind enough to provide us with some up close photos of Mariya's hand appliqué and her own machine work on the BERNINA Q20 while they were putting it together. Come take a look and see an award-winning quilt being born.

What sort of magic do you conjure up to become a Memory Match expert? Well, if you're a mere mortal like most of us then you just play Jinny Beyer's Memory Match Game each week to get better and better. Otherwise, you probably just wave a wand or something and let get it solved for you. (Which is cheating we think!)
Alex loved this quilt from her recent chat with Teresa so much that we knew it had to be a puzzle. The Blue One got into Houston 2021 and is all improv pieced. It measures 62" square and contains over 2,600 pieces cut down from larger improv pieces that Teresa had made. Every piece is about an inch to an inch-and-a-half across, with all of the fabric coming from Marcia Derse's blue lines. What is most impressive about the quilt though, is that each of the over 2,000 pieces contains a unique free-motion design that Teresa quilted.
