Featured Wearable Art - Best of Show at PIQF 2022

Marty Ornish, our featured guest in this week's episode of The Quilt Show, just took home a big prize at the 2022 Pacific International Quilt Festival. Her garment, She gazed at the carousel through rose-colored glasses, won Best of Show in the Wearable Art Competition. She says that the gown and matching backdrop were constructed from a deconstructed 1940's Suffolk puff quilt made by Joan Crone, who gave her the quilt to convert into a dress because she was a fan of Marty's work. Congratulations Marty!

Marty's Winning Awards and Hearts Left and Right

You probably just saw Marty Ornish's award-winning dress above, now you can learn from the award-winning quilter herself in this week's show. Marty has been earning praise from our members for her upcycle work with vintage textiles, and here's just a small sample of what they had to say:

"What a wonderful show. Marty was fantastic, her ideas for use of vintage items and what you can do with them is fabulous. I will have to go digging through all the vintage laces, doilies and other items I have." - Lucy K

"What an interesting show. I loved Marty’s work and it makes one look differently at vintage items." - Monique L P

"I’m from the UK. I just love it when you feature vintage fabrics, used in art quilts or clothing, so much inspiration in this particular show." - Linda K

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Keep Climbing Those Ladders
"Limbs, Ladders, Roots, and Rocks" by Deborah Boschert

Limbs, Ladders, Roots, and Rocks was created as part of Deborah's "year of ladders". Her process in making it started with the red strip in the middle where she wanted to create a line of trees. The quilt was then built up, or "grew" from that red strip to include the rest of the surrounding features like the ladders, roots, and rocks of the title. Deborah says you will find this quilt in the Art Miniature category of judged shows.
