Featured Quilt - Yuko Watanabe Best of Show Award at PIQF 2023

As of yesterday, MANCUSO has successfully completed another Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) in Santa Clara, CA. This year's winner of the Yuko Watanabe Best of Show Award may look familiar to some, as it actually took home an award at the beginning of the year at Road to California. The quilt, Aki Sakai's Blue Tone II, is a handmade wonder and just has to be seen to be believed.

Here's a little more about Aki's amazing work, "Created for her 30th wedding anniversary, the design is based on family memories, her favorite things, and the commemoration of joining the quilt group Honey Bee. This stunning piece was hand pieced, appliquéd and quilted. While it took Aki a lot of time to make this award winning traditional quilt, she took pleasure in reminiscing on her loved ones." How long did it take her to make it you may be asking? Just a little over a year and a half.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: How "Crazy" Is This Quilt?

"Crazy Quilt" by Susan Schrempf

One of her favorite quilts, Susan Schrempf's Crazy Quilt incorporates a lot of different material. The background is all batiks, with some of the stitches done with 2, 4, and 7-millimeter silk ribbons, there is also some beading by machine along with some metal charms featured throughout. With all of that, plus the way the quilt itself is put together, Susan's quilt certainly earns the title Crazy Quilt.
