Featured Quilt - PIQF 2022 Best of Show

She's done it again. That's right, Margaret Solomon Gunn has won another Best of Show award. This time she won Best of Show at the 2022 Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) with her quilt, Sweet Madame Blue.

On making the quilt, Margaret said, "Most who know me are aware that I don't tend to work much with blue, but this design kept me away from my more comfortable colors and always thinking on my toes. It is all turned-edge applique. In fact, the entire top is made by hand. I added a good bit of hand embroidery after the quilt was quilted. Go figure - there is always that feeling it is just not quite complete. I also added some crystals as well as beading on many of the flowers."

As for the name of the quilt, "Though spelled differently, the quilt pays homage to a 1975 Styx song which I really like, and it seemed like a fitting name."
Roberta Horton's Legend Show Is Open & FREE to Watch!
Remembering Roberta

The late great Roberta Horton, our 2014 Quilt Legend along with her sister Mary Mashuta is being honored with her own exhibit at this year's Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF), which runs through today. Remembering Roberta features quilts made by Roberta's friends, "ranging from local guild members to international quilting superstars" that were made "using a collection of fabrics that Roberta designed."

In honor of Roberta, and the exhibit, we are opening up her Legend show for FREE this week for you to watch, enjoy, and remember a wonderful person and quilting legend.

And if you missed it last week, have a listen to Roberta's Quilters' Save Our Stories in which she talks about some of her quilts and her working relationship with her sister.

Learn from Roberta, and her sister Mary Mashuta, by watching them in 2014 Quilt Legends Mary Mashuta and Roberta Horton.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Special Quilted Connection
"When I grow up" by Marty Ornish

When I grow up is all about Marty's mom and her. She wanted to create a quilt that honored her mother, who was also a good seamstress and a great mom. Marty's mother was also the one to teach Marty how to sew doll clothes, hence the doll head and outfit prominently featured on the quilt.
