Featured Quilt - First Place Group Quilts at the 2023 Festival of Quilts

Cottage Garden by the Comberton Quilters won First Place - Group Quilts at the 2023 Festival of Quilts. The Comberton Quilters, consisting of Pat Andrews, Janet Batho, Marlene Chaffey, Elaine Dart, Anne Edwards, Sharon Gresham, Sandra Grey, Pauline Jamieson, Susan Lees and Gini Wilkinson, created this quilt using a book from one of TQS's previous BOM designers, Edyta Sitar. The quilt was pieced by the aforementioned quilters and quilted by Marlene Chaffey.

They said about the inspiration for their work, "This quilt was made using Edyta Sitar's book “Quilter's Patch,” with a few amendments. Extra butterflies were added to the top and the vine continues round into the top border."

Learn from Edyta right here on The Quilt Show by watching her in Block of the Month Quilt 2018 The Patchwork Barn Quilt by Edyta Sitar.

Dior: Handweaving Autumn-Winter 2022-2023 Haute Couture

How Does Dior Do It?

What goes into making a fabric? Sometimes it can be made in an instant when it is digitally printed, other times it can take many, many hours. This video is an example of the latter where "this plaid textile has been laboriously handwoven by Aurélia Leblanc in her Paris atelier on a vast warp with an 800-yarn weft repeat in over 40 colors of linen, cotton, raffia and dyed silk ribbons."

The textile was made as part of the Dior Autumn-Winter 2022-2023 Haute Couture collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Watch the video and see just how much work goes into a few yards of textile.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: "Charmed" To See

"Charmed" by Cindy Lohbeck

Charmed was made as a sample quilt for Cindy's Charm Pack class. In the class, Cindy shows you how to use stencils, corn dextrin, and potato dextrin to create your own charm packs featuring stenciled hand-dyed fabrics and coordinating solid hand-dyed fabrics. Charmed shows off the different types of stenciled and solid fabrics you could make in the class displayed simply in a polka dot design. Everything in this quilt was hand dyed, except the black border fabric.
