Featured Quilt - PIQF 2021 Best of Show
A Summer Christmas (100" x 100") by Mariya Waters and Gina Perkes-Tidwell (Show 1812) won Best of Show at the Pacific International Quilt Festival 2021. This quilt was an across the hemispheres collaboration as Mariya resides in Melbourne, Australia, and Gina lives in Arizona, USA. Inspired by Victoriana and Greek design, it was hand and machine appliquéd equally across the surface using whole turned edge appliqué. Then Gina's quilting takes it to another level. This one is truly a show stopper.

A Brand New Exhibit at The Museum of Fine Arts Boston
"Upending expectations about quilt displays—traditionally organized by region, form, or motif — “Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories” is a loosely chronological presentation in seven thematic sections that voices multiple perspectives. Visitors see and hear from artists, educators, academics, and activists, and the remarkable examples on view are by an underrecognized diversity of artistic hands and minds from the 17th century to today."
The exhibit will be at The Museum of Fine Arts Boston from October 10, 2021 to January 17, 2022.

"Flower Market, Chichicastenango, Guatemala" by Meri Henriques Vahl
Flower Market, Chichicastenango, Guatemala was made by Meri after she took a trip there with the great Guatemalan quilter, Priscilla Bianchi. When she was in Guatemala, Meri's impression of the country was that she was stepping into a rainbow, and once she returned home, she collaged all the pictures she took together in her mind to create the central image. For the border, as is typical with her international quilts, Meri used fabric from Guatemala to represent the work that the people of the country do.
See more of Meri's quilts in How to Make a Landscape Quilt with Figures with Meri Henriques Vahl | A Bedturning of Antique Quilts with Lisa Erlandson.
