Featured Quilt - Radiant In Red

Lorraine Gray's quilt, Sweet Madeira, was featured in the Traditional Quilts category at the 2023 Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, England. Lorraine says that her stunning and intricately thread painted work was what she spent her days in lockdown working on.

She says, "The conclusion of a Mystery Wholecloth Quilt Course by Lady Jane Quilting. Both choosing and adding my favourite fills passed many long days during lockdown, as did the beaded edgings inspired by Bethanne Nemesh’s Devilish Details course. I’ve been saving this red Radiance silk for a long time."

Don't Be Scared, It's Only the Month 10 BOM Patterns!

What better way to start off the spookiest month than with a burst of sunshine from the Month 10 patterns of the 2023 Block of the Month, Homeward Bound.

This month you will be piecing the triangles for Border 4 and stitching the little leaves and berries at the end of each row, just as you did for Month 5. The hearts for this border will be made next month.

The 30th Anniversary Quilt Alliance BOM - Month 6

Designed by Andrea Tsang Jackson

From the Quilt Alliance"Last month, we practiced accuracy with a no-waste method for making flying geese. We’ll be building on that skill this month as we create smaller flying geese units for this block with a meaningful story. Inspired by her personal journey of starting to quilt by flying solo, before joining a gaggle of quilters in a guild, our designer for this month is the skilled artist and designer Andrea Tsang Jackson of 3rd Story Workshop."

A Bridge Quilt with "Kaleidoscopic" Influences

We've finished our series on the Modern Bridges from around the world that would inspire quilters. Now let's take a look at quilts that actually were inspired by bridges. Our first is from TQS guest and master of the kaleidoscope quilt Paula Nadelstern. Paula's quilt, Kaleidoscopic XXXII: My Brooklyn Bridge, was inspired by a photo of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City and is a part of her kaleidoscope series of quilts. Can you see why Paula considers this a kaleidoscope quilt? Click through to find out.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: From the Dark Into Light

"Michael's Lotus" by Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo

Michael's Lotus was commissioned by a friend of Leslie's named Michael. Lotuses themselves grow in muddy, marshy, swampy places, but they arise from all of that when they are grown to be beautiful, clean, unstained, and perfect. The idea behind this quilt is that our true nature can emerge from all of the muck of our lives, coming out of the darkness to reach the light with our hearts never truly having been damaged by it while remaining pure and loving in the midst of it all.
