Featured Quilt - First Place Machine Quilting at Houston 2022

Today's quilt is the first of many from the 2022 Houston International Quilt Festival and its overall theme is near and dear to our hearts. A Tribute To Ricky by Deb Schultz Grimes won First Place - Machine Quilting (Sponsored by BERNINA) at the festival and was inspired by our very own Ricky Tims.

Deb says, "This quilt is a tribute to Ricky Tims and his book, Kool Kaleidoscope Quilts, where I learned his technique for these quilts. Since my first kaleidoscope quilt, I have developed my own process, and this quilt highlights my growth with curved seams; 24 outer wedges that are Y-seamed to 12 inner wedges; and appliqué enhancements. Thank you, Ricky, for an easy-to-follow method that inspired me to go further."
You too can learn Ricky's Kool Kaleidoscope technique in Show 403: How to Make a Kool Kaleidoscope Quilt with Ricky Tims.
It's New Show Day with Ana Buzzalino and Denise Lopez!
This Show Will "Rock" Your Socks Off

Learn how a few days of boredom in the corporate office and playing around with PowerPoint led Ana Buzzalino to a world of creating unique fabric using the program's simple functions and non-related photos. But not everything Ana creates is done on the computer. Her fascination with rocks has led her to stitching her own hand-stitched and embroidered fabric "rocks" that include veining, cracks, and other embellishments.

Then Longarm specialist Denise Lopez shares tips for success when it comes to loading your quilt on the machine before the quilting even begins.

Learn from Ana and Denise in How to Design with PowerPoint - Embellishing Appliqué Rocks with Ana Buzzalino | How to Load a Longarm with Denise Lopez, which debuts today!

Quilters' Save Our Stories with Velda Newman
Big Quilts and a Big Personality Tell a Larger-Than-Life Story

With it being the Houston International Quilt Festival this weekend, we thought we would bring you a Quilters' Save Our Stories (QSOS) that was recorded at the festival over twenty years ago. This story from the Quilt Alliance's program features Velda Newman as "she explains her design process, including studying, sketching, and creating enlarged patterns of her natural subjects." One such enlarged pattern discussed is her quilt Sunkissed, which measures 5.5 feet x 14 feet, and was also featured when she visited us on The Quilt Show.

Erika Mulvenna at WeAllSew has a great way for using up your fall-colored fabric scraps. Using your sewing machine and a few other craft supplies, you can make a bunch of fall leaves to decorate your home. Follow along with this tutorial to make a fall leaf garland, trivet, and table runner.
New From Quilters Select - Quilting Ruler Rack and Organizer
Rulers and Tools at an Arm's Reach for Quick Access

We love these Quilters Select Ruler Racks and Organizers because they hold lots of rulers (and other goodies!) and the wide base keeps them from tipping over. Available in two sizes - one for regular fabric rulers (3mm) and one for extra thick machine quilting rulers (6mm).
The Quilt Show Puzzle: Only Angles And Corners Here
"Not a Circle in Sight" by Robin Long

Not a Circle in Sight does not feature, as the title would suggest, a single circle in the entire quilt. Made using Robin's no-circle finishing method, she used appliquéd fussy-cut flowers to finish off the centers of her Mariner's Compasses throughout the quilt.
