Featured Quilt - Teresa Duryea Wong Judge's Choice Award at Houston 2022
We continue our feature on the Judge's Choice winners of the 2022 Houston International Quilt Festival by focusing on Carousel by Margery Hedges, which was given Teresa Duryea Wong's Judge's Choice Award.
Of her machine appliquéd and hand embellished quilt, Margery said, "This quilt was inspired by a Mediterranean cruise. I discovered an amazing carousel on a walk in Marseille. European carousels have extremely intricate designs and landscape paintings on the face of the roof. I used the landscapes to highlight places we had visited, which made this a great memory quilt of our trip. This section of a carousel is typical of that area, with added stories of people in and
around it."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Enjoy The "Watercolor of Brazil"
"Aquarela do Brasil" by Paula Doyle
Aquarela do
Brasil, which translates to "Watercolor of Brazil", is named after a song from Brazil, which is where Paula grew up. She created the quilt to remind her of a perfect day at Iguazú Falls, where they have butterflies, lizards, and even jaguars living in the forest. Paula didn't use just one fabric to make her quilt, she used six different ones to represent the flora and fauna of Iguazú Falls.
See more of Paula's quilts in Stack and Whack Quilts with Paula Doyle | Fabric Selection Lea McComas.
