Featured Quilt - Second Place Abstract at Houston 2023
Good Vibrations by Barbara Oliver Hartman won Second Place in the Abstract category (Sponsored by Sew Steady) at 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival. While entered along with the Abstract quilts, you could also submit Barbara's quilt in another category, scrappy quilts, as it was made from her past projects as a way to breathe new life into them.
She says, "This was made from bits and pieces left from previous projects to give a new purpose for these materials. Finding new uses for them gave me joy and got my creative juices going to be able to turn them into new and useful items."

Valerie C. White shares how the digital cutter and Evolon have allowed her to eliminate the time consuming process of carefully hand cutting enhanced and highly detailed elements. Designs painted with acrylic paint pens are now able to be cut, carefully peeled off, and placed in position on the art quilt surface with these useful tools.

Helen Godden is a fabulous quilter, and she decided to pay tribute to her homeland in a big way. She created My Australia, a quilt that is 6.5m x 1.75m (21' x 6'). Alex pays tribute to Helen and shows an interview with her at her exhibit at the 2023 Houston Quilt Show.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Memories Of The River

"Metolius" by Jean Wells
Metolius evolved from a memory that Jean had of being a very little girl on the Metolius River where her grandmother had a cabin. Before they put the dams up you could see all the fish in the river, and Jean would just go and hold her fishing pole out there and catch the fish. Remembering the colors from then, she created this quilt with her fantasy fish culled from her wonderful childhood memories.
