Featured Quilt - Best Sewing Machine Workmanship Mid-Century Mod/Modern Quilt at PIQF 2022

Moving Parts by Claire Victor won Best Sewing Machine Workmanship - Mid-Century Mod/Modern Quilt at the 2022 Pacific International Quilt Festival. Claire is no stranger to this category, having won Best Mid-Century Mod/Modern Quilt at the 2021 Virtual Spring Quilt Festival with her quilt Piercing Pyramids.

Claire had this to say about her 2022 award-winning quilt. "Moving Parts is my fourth modern quilt designed using Procreate. I am trying to create dimension and motion without shading or painting. After I was satisfied with the design, the "distort" tool was used, altering the forms and adding a little different interest. The background quilting design is my modern tribute to crazy quilting. This is English paper pieced, and machine quilted on a domestic BERNINA."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: All Tied Up In Colorful Knots
"Color Knots" by Gyleen Fitzgerald

Color Knots was Gyleen's move into more Modern quilts. Being such a technician with precision though, Gyleen still designed the quilt using a template and made it orderly instead of it being more free-flowing like other Modern quilts. She made it more Modern by eliminating elements and backing off on things she might have put into something more contemporary. To make up for having those empty blocks, Gyleen incorporated a checkerboard quilted pattern to fill out the background.
