Featured Quilt - Third Place Machine Quilting at Houston 2023

Circling Sevenstar by Lyn Crump won Third Place in the Machine Quilting (Sponsored by BERNINA) category at the 2023 Houston International Quilt Festival. The number seven, as evidenced by the quilt's title, played a big role in the creation of the quilt. Here's what Lyn had to say about it:

"Multiples of seven in orbs, fabric colors, hand-dyed embroidery threads, and sizes of circle paths combine to orbit around my seventh variation of a Feathered Star - this time a seven-point star. I added twisted chain stitch embroidery to the circles and edge of the quilt top between the facing and the quilt. Subtle changes of thread weight and colors in the quilting, which is all freehand guided, emphasize stars and orbits with lots of ruler work and even more fun."

SewVeryEasy Tutorial: How to Block a Quilt Block

There's More Than One Way to Block a Quilt Block

Getting your quilt blocks to line up with each other is one of the most important things in making a quilt look like a quilt. Sometimes those blocks don't always turn out right and need to be trimmed to fit their partners. But what do you do when you can't trim it? Well, you'll need to block that quilt block, and Laura Ann Coia at SewVeryEasy has a few different ways to show you how to do just that.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Can't Keep This Inside

"Shuttered" by Peter Byrne

Peter made Shuttered during the 2020 lockdown using a block he calls "The 9 Cabin" and Cherrywood Hand Dyed Fabrics. To make Shuttered, Peter created two identical quilts, one in tan and one in purple, and laid them on top of each other and cut out the large panels from each one. From there, he utilized his hover quilting technique to sew it all back together.
