Third Place Wall Quilts - "An Exercise in Patience", Practical Piecing Techniques with Lee Chappell Monroe, Alex and Ann Hazelwood Speak, A 65-Foot Hand-Crocheted Tree, Terial Magic Fabric Stabilizer, A Devious Puzzle

Welcome to Wednesday - November 17, 2021
Featured Quilt - Third Place Wall Quilts at PIQF 2021

Have you ever taken a picture of something thinking it was one thing, but it was really something else. Like, you took a picture of who you thought was Alex Anderson at a quilt show, but it was actually just a stranger. The same can be done for quilt inspiration it turns out, as that's what happened to Cindy Gangler, whose quilt, The Gov's House - NOT, won Third Place - Wall Quilts at PIQF 2021.

It makes more sense when Cindy explains it, "This quilt was created in response to a challenge to have a tree in the quilt. I thought I had taken a photo of the California Governor's Mansion. I later learned I had taken a photo of the Leland Stanford Mansion which has it's own rich history. I loved the photo so much I continued on to make the quilt. It's creation was an exercise in patience which is part of my new normal quilt mode."

Become Practically Perfect at Piecing with Lee Chappell Monroe
Lee Chappell Monroe has many different fun and exciting techniques that she teaches in our latest show. But some of the the simplest are the most effective, like her practical tips for improving your piecing techniques. You'll watch her approach to piecing and then think, "Why haven't I tried it that way before?"

A 65-Foot Hand-Crocheted Tree In A Zurich Train Station
A (Crocheted) Tree Stands Tall

"Brazilian Conceptual artist Ernesto Neto manifests sensorial experiences in highly trafficked public spaces, encouraging passersby to slow down their everyday movements to interact with, smell, and relax in his temporary installations. His most recent work was created in partnership with the Fondation Beyeler in the concourse of Zurich’s main train station. The 65-foot green and orange work, GaiaMotherTree, extends to the ceiling, while its base creates a temporary oasis in the middle of the bustling station." - www.thisiscolossal.com
