Featured Quilt - The Gammill Master Award For Machine Artistry at Houston 2022

Soul of the Southwest by Debbie Corbett with Mike Corbett won The Gammill Master Award For Machine Artistry at the 2022 Houston International Quilt Festival. Both of the Corbetts had this to say in regard to their inspiration and creation of this amazing quilt, which has A LOT of stitches and work put into it.

"Our love of Native American artwork inspired us to recreate an authentic serape quilt. The process began with selecting the correct quilt pattern, fabric colors, quilting designs, and thread colors. The quilt consists of 2,426 one-inch pieces, 12 different thread colors, and over one million quilting stitches. The 28 custom quilting designs were created from traditional vintage pottery artwork from the Acoma, Zuni, Hopi, and Navajo people."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: The Land Is Ever Changing
"The Prairies Changing Landscape" by Ana Buzzalino

The Prairies Changing Landscape is a whole cloth quilt with the dark part at the bottom being mono-printed. All the slash marks done throughout the quilt were made using five different colors of fabric paint and the edge of a credit card. The quilt itself is a paper lamination that depicts one of the grain elevators close to where Ana lives. Ana loves working with grain elevators, which are a part of history that is disappearing and tell the story of where we came from, how the prairies were formed, and the hamlets that came about after the grain elevators were erected.
