Featured Quilt - First Place from the "New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties" Competition
We promised you more from the "New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties" exhibit that is currently on display at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY, and here it is. We present to you the first place winner from the competition, Rose's Roaring Fans by Laura L. Pomes.
Here's what Laura had to say about her quilt and the traditional quilt block that inspired it. The traditional block “Grandmother’s Fan” was chosen to honor my grandmother Rose. “Rose’s Roaring Fans” celebrates the Art Deco style and Rose’s life growing up in the 1920s. Her flare for fashion with cloche hats, bobbed haircuts and drop-waisted dresses made her stand out in every photograph. The addition of hand appliquéd circles is a tribute to my mother Pearl who lovingly taught me how to sew."
To learn more about the exhibit, and to see TQS's own Mary Kay Davis' quilt, Tut Comes Roaring In, that was also on display in the exhibit, click the button below to learn more.

Turn Loose Scraps Into Efficient Blocks Quickly
Judy Gauthier shows how three different square templates can help you quickly cut and use the largest or smallest part of a scrap of fabric. See how using pre-cut sizes speeds the making time in half. She then shares how to make blocks for three different quilts that all begin with five-and-a-half inch squares.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Anyone Want Some Fruit?
|
|

|
"Clementine" by Emily Taylor
Created as a beginner pattern for collage quilters, Emily's Clementine quilt really does just utilize the basics of collage quilting to depict a clementine fruit tree. Instead of emphasizing on how the image will turn out, it lets quilters focus on grouping similarly valued colored fabrics together to create the image. Once complete, the viewer's eyes will fill in the rest and a beautiful quilt is then seen.
See more of Emily's quilts in How to Make a Collage Quilt with Emily Taylor | THEIRstory Exhibit with Susanne Miller Jones.
