Featured Quilt - First Place Hand Quilted Quilts (Sponsored by Arrow Sewing) at AQS Quiltweek Paducah 2023

Kyoko Yamauchi's beautifully hand quilted quilt, With A Wish To The Stars, took home, what else but the First Place - Hand Quilted Quilts (Sponsored by Arrow Sewing) award at AQS Quiltweek Paducah 2023. With colorful floral decor circling the quilt and more nature-inspired designs throughout, Kyoko's work will inspire you to reach for the stars and make your next quilt the best it can be.

Here's what Kyoko had to say about what inspired her to make the quilt, "Peonies delight us with their large blossoms in our garden in spring. These peonies bloom early, but they also fall early. At night, while watching the stars in the garden, I was thankful for the peace and tranquility of everyday life, and I wanted to preserve it in some form, so I expressed it in my favorite quilt."

Working with Yukata Fabric with Patricia Belyea

Ignore the Fear and Have Fun with the Fabric

Many quilters are unsure about working with vintage Yukata fabric. But in our latest show, Patricia Belyea explains the ins and outs of the Japanese Yukata cotton and how perfect it is for quilting once you overcome the fear of cutting into the 14” wide fabric. She shares how easy it is to fussy cut a 1-yard piece for a baby quilt using large freezer paper squares as templates.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Braiding Up A Sample

"French Braid Sampler" by Jane Hardy Miller

French Braid Sampler is a variation of the cover quilt from Jane's 2014 book, French Braid Quilts with a Twist. Since a lot of French Braid quilts normally contain big squares, Jane wanted to see what one would look like in a sampler setting. So she tried it out on this quilt and really enjoyed how it would turn out.
