Featured Quilt - Here Comes The "Bride"

There isn't anything common about Diana Mahrenholz's Common Bride quilt, which was a semi-finalist in Wall Quilts - Movable Machine Quilted category at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2024. Designed using Edyta Sitar's pattern of the same name, Diana's quilt features expertly executed hand appliqué and machine piecing used to nail down all the intricate and tiny pieces present in Edyta's pattern. As for the inspiration behind the pattern itself, Edyta once said that it was made to represent the everyday girl who is celebrating her wedding day.

Edyta's own version of the Common Bride quilt was featured on The Quilt Show in Block of the Month Quilt 2018 The Patchwork Barn Quilt by Edyta Sitar, and in a 2-part interview conducted by Meg Cox for the Quilters' Save Our Stories (QSOS) oral history project at the Quilt Alliance's 5th annual Quilters Take Manhattan fundraiser in 2015. Click the buttons below to see both Edyta's Common Bride and to watch her interview with Meg.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Fond Memories of the Past

"Georgia on my Mind" by Mary Kerr

Georgia on my Mind is a quilt that is very special to Mary. She says, "This quilt was created using a vintage money bag from C&S bank of Athens, Georgia. The bag was found in the home of my in-laws, Tom (1927-2020) and Mary Elizabeth (1930-2005) Kerr. I surrounded the bag with star blocks circa 1900. The outer border are blocks I was working with when I learned of the passing of a dear friend and fellow Athenian, Cardee Kilpatrick (1934-2020). The back is a feedsack from Tugaloo State park. My sisters and I learned to waterski on this lake as children in the 1970's. Precious memories in a special quilt." The quilt was machine quilted by Cheryl Morgan.
