Sunday Smiles - May 22, 2022
Featured Quilt - Andrea Brokenshire's Second Winner

Andrea Brokenshire doesn't do anything second-rate. No, she wasn't content winning just one award at AQS Quiltweek 2022, she went ahead and won TWO! Her first was Orange Crushed It, and her second, Stargazer Splendor, won First Place - Small Wall Quilts: Pictorial (Sponsored by PFAFF). Andrea had this to say about her splendid quilt, "My Momma has the most beautiful gardens. One of the flowers that flourishes there is the Stargazer Lily. Their scent is intoxicating and their beauty magnificent. The challenge for me in making this piece was creating the texture and colors of pollen filled anthers."

You can see this quilt by Andrea, and many more, by watching her in

She shows off her Wonky Faces, a creative project for building a fun and whimsical portrait. And last but not least, she shows creative and unexpected uses for clothesline when it comes to making unique and multi-layered, and textural art pieces.

Quilters' Save Our Stories with Susan Shie
Susan Shie Shares Her Story

Beginning today, we will begin featuring a series of Quilters' Save Our Stories interviews, or QSOS for short. What are Quilters' Save Our Stories interviews you ask? "Quilters’ S.O.S. – Save Our Stories (QSOS) is a project of the non-profit Quilt Alliance. The project creates, through recorded interviews, a broadly accessible body of information concerning quiltmaking, both present-day and in living memory. Our archive for the original audio recordings and photographs is the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. QSOS volunteers from across the country conduct and transcribe these interviews. We appreciate their generosity of time and dedication to the project!"

The Quilt Show Puzzle: A Flower Made With Pride
"Cross Stitch Flower" by Olesya Lebedenko

Cross Stitch Flower represents Ukrainian art and is inspired by Olesya's Ukrainian heritage. She calls the quilt design a "knot for luck" and it features a cross-stitch flower, which is a classic Ukrainian design.
