Featured Quilt - Inspired by Sue Garman's "Afternoon
Delight"
I Ain't Afraid To Appliqué by Donna Daniel won First Place Large Quilts: 1st Entry in an AQS Paducah Quilt Contest (Sponsored by Gammill®) at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2023. The quilt is named as such because, originally, Donna was afraid to appliqué. The quilt was a personal challenge to herself to overcome her fear of appliqué because she has only been quilting seriously since 2016. It features machine and turned edge appliqué, piecing, and longarm machine quilting by Donna's friend Becky Clayton.
I Ain't Afraid To Appliqué was created using The Quilt Show's very own 2020 Block Of the Month pattern by Sue Garman, Afternoon Delight. With no goal other than to conquer her fear of appliqué, and to create a quilt using black, cream, and tan, Donna was just as
surprised as anyone that her quilt made it into Paducah, let alone won a First Place award. It took Donna one year to make the quilt and she made it as part of Barbara Black's Sunday Sew and Sews group back in 2020 when they were all making the BOM for that year

The Quilt Show Puzzle: The Big Apple Gets Married

"Bright Lights, Big City" by Victoria Findlay Wolfe
When exploring
double wedding ring quilts, Victoria wanted to expand the space of a traditional double wedding ring quilt to try something different. The result was Bright Lights, Big City, which talks about the New York City neighborhood where she lives and incorporates elements of the New York Beauty into the double wedding ring, hence the something different. Victoria is always looking at the shapes of a double wedding and seeing what she can do with it, starting with the traditional, making it big, then making it small, and so on. The quilt ended up being quite large, Victoria calls it her "Big Mama", and it and its pattern are featured in her book, Double Wedding Rings, Traditions Made Modern.
See more of Victoria's quilts in How to Make a Double Wedding Ring Quilt with Victoria Findlay Wolfe.
