Featured Quilt - First Place Small Wall Quilts: Pictorial at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2024
Gourds and Pumpkins by LeAnn J. Hileman won First Place - Small Wall Quilts: Pictorial (Sponsored by PFAFF) at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2024. When one sees LeAnn's quilt, the first season you'd think of would probably not be the sweltering Summer that will be approaching for many. No, it recalls the cool Fall months with leaves falling and gathering the titular gourds and pumpkins for a Thanksgiving celebration. Inspired by a family photograph, LeAnn used hand appliqué, raw edge appliqué, collage, and other tried and true quilting techniques to achieve the realistic look of the festive Fall foods she has on display.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Squares Become Hexagons
|
|
|
|
"Blended Hexagons" by Judy Gauthier
Blended Hexagons came about because of a very unique way of cutting squares that Judy discovered while playing in her sewing room. So everything you see in the quilt, even if your eyes don't believe it, is made using a square to start. No wedge ruler, no measuring angles, just squares that eventually become hexagons.

A Grandmother's Legacy
Based on a picture of Alex sewing at her grandmother's knee, Grandmother's Legacy is an award-winning quilt by artist and quilter Gail E. Thomas. Alex loved the quilt as a memory and a statement of passing on our passions from generation to generation. Then one day, Alex was shocked to receive this quilt as a gift from Gail. It is a family treasure.
Here at the quilt show we want to share our quilting knowledge with you and future generations. Join us and help pass on the passion.
Hand painted front and back on batik fabric, hand painted stenciled, threadwork and free motion quilting, hand embroidery beadwork in crystals, glass, silver, and pearls .
(To answer the question for those who haven't guessed, Alex is the one with her back to authority...nothing changes.)
