Featured Quilt - Best Of Show 2023 Dallas Quilt Show
Melissa Sobotka has done it again and taken home Best of Show with another of her amazingly realistic pictorial quilts. Melissa's quilt, Painted Ponies on the Prairie, won Best Of Show at the 2023 Dallas Quilt Show and according to Melissa is based on an "Image of a traveling carnival operated by my husband's great grandparents, Edith & Marion Whaley, pictured with their son Lloyd and local Sioux.". If you want to learn more about the backstory of this fantastic quilt, made sure to read all about it under the About The Quilt tab on the quilt's gallery page.
If you want to learn from Melissa, and see more of her pictorial and photo
imagery quilts, watch her right here on The Quilt Show in How to Create

"The Jump" by Cristina Arcenegui Bono
The
Jump is based on an illustration from Ukrainian artist Sveta Dorosheva from her book, How to Handle a Child, and used with her permission. It is from a chapter in the book also titled "The Jump", but Sveta told Cristina that she could title her quilt whatever she would like. So, she chose The Jump because it was just too perfect not to use. The only thing that Cristina changed from the original illustration was the color of the water, which she changed from black to gray using her thread color choice.
