Featured Quilt - Basketwork Inspires Beauty

SquashBlossom Basket by Noreen Borys was featured in the Artisan Cotton Fabric Challenge at Quiltcon 2022 and was very apropos for the show as it was inspired by work at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, which is where the show was held. Noreen says, "This quilt was inspired by the intricately woven baskets created by the Tohono O'odham Native American tribe that are displayed in the Heard Museum in Phoenix. I designed my own simplified version of a SquashBlossom basket and used the Windham Artisan Fabrics to create the piece."

The Quilt Show Puzzle: An Array of Beautiful Colors
"Aurora" by Michael James

This quilt was created in 1978 by the talented Michael James, our 2013 TQS Quilt Legend. It is called Aurora and measures 96" x 108". Aurora is part of a series of sky-themed quilts and is an abstract composition which breaks through the traditional idea of a drunkard's path block. Michael was inspired by the French painter/designers Robert and Sonia Delaunay and the quilt is in the collection of the International Quilt Museum.
