See a "Dragon Dance"

Sheila Frampton-Cooper's quilt, Dragon Dance, was on display at Quiltcon 2022. Surprisingly it was inspired by a yoga magazine. Read what she has to say.

Artist Statement: "It was early 2020, just before the pandemic hit, and I was in a strange headspace. I'd recently returned from living abroad for six years, and I felt lost. Creatively I was stunted and this had never happened to me. However, I simply allowed myself to be where I was, depressed. One day, looking through a yoga magazine and I noticed a simple line drawing of a Mandala, and something inside of me started to stir! I grabbed my iPad and started drawing like crazy. The design for this quilt was the first one that came through. My son said it looked like a dragon, and in particular, a dragon you'd see in the traditional Chinese celebration "Dragon Dance." Dragons come up for me quite often, and this is also my sign in Chinese astrology. And as she was born, as I was reborn."

A Good Start for Beginning Quilters and Anyone Who Loves Quilts

Teacher extraordinaire Tommy Romano is back to show Alex and Ricky how to make two simple quilts for beginning quilters. First up, the Jelly Bean quilt by Terri Petasek. A striking beginner’s quilt made from a single jelly roll. Then inspired by one of your favorite puzzles, Sudoku, Tommy takes the nine-patch to another level.

Then it's time for a stop in LaGrange, TX for one of the country’s ten best quilt museums, The Texas Quilt Museum. Founders Karey Bresenhan and Nancy O’Bryant Puentes restored a historic former furniture store into a fantastic exhibition space for rotating quilt exhibitions.
