Featured Quilt - Get Wrapped Up in This "Rhapsody"

Iris Rhapsody by Jane Karhu Powers took Third Place in the Small Wall Quilts: 1st Entry in an AQS Paducah Quilt Contest, sponsored by The Appliqué Society, at AQS Quiltweek 2022 in Paducah.

Jane's quilt was based on Ricky Tim's Rhapsody Quilt book and used the double blanket stitch to appliqué and Ricky's Razzle Dazzle thread stitched from the back of the quilt to outline the pieces. Ricky, who is a master of the Rhapsody quilt himself, was a judge at Quiltweek and was so impressed with Jane's quilt that he had this to say, "Congratulations again Jane. And it wasn’t clear… but Jane designed all of her quilt. All the shapes and appliqué were hers 100%."
Our New Show Today with Linda Sullivan of Colourwerx!
Wonky Piecing and Decorative Stitching on Appliqué

Love color? This is the show for you. Linda Sullivan of Colourwerx joins Alex and Ricky to demonstrate her method of wonky piecing. First, she shows Alex how to create a "wonky piecing building block" which can be used in any number of quilts. She then builds on that idea by demonstrating to Ricky how to use that building block to create fun and adorable machine appliquéd motifs. Linda continues her demonstration by highlighting the use of decorative stitches on the pieces of appliqué. Then, stick around until the end where Linda surprises Alex and Ricky with a "TV treat”.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Looking For The Right Part
"Casting Calls" by Libby Williamson

Casting Calls uses the remnants, or orphan blocks, of a quilt that Libby featured the last time she was on The Quilt Show. The title itself has two meanings and is a play on words. The first is that the remnants used in this quilt from the previous one were being auditioned, or "casted", for this piece. The second meaning is a little more intricate. The piece itself is meant to hang away from the wall, with the materials layered between a sheer tulle and cheesecloth, and when hung that way there is a "cast" shadow that shows off the squares.
