A Quilt's "Flight" To Great Success, On The Set with Linda Sullivan, Barbara Black Talks BOM Month 6, Color My Quilt Class 12, Get Your "Garden Party Down Under" Month 6 Patterns, Who Made This Quilt?, A Dancing Puzzle

Weekend Fun - June 3, 2022
Featured Quilt - Flying High Through The Night

Midnight Flight by Joanne Baeth won First Place - Small Wall Quilts: Quilter’s Choice (Sponsored by Janome America; Longarm) at AQS Quiltweek 2022 in Paducah. Basin Life Magazine described Joanne's majestic work on this quilt as such, "From a distance, an art quilt looks like a painting, but up close, one can see how nationally-recognized quilt artist Joanne Baeth has delicately hand-stitched the threadwork and combined it with machine stitching and inking to bring to life the natural beauty she sees around her. The Great Horned Owl in the foreground was constructed by painting and inking each feather and thread painting over wool rovings."

New Things Learned Every Day

The great thing about history, especially quilting history, is that new information can be gleamed and learned from it all the time. Take this quilt for example held in the collection of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Museum. It is over 200 years old and was thought to be made by one quilter, but new information has brought to light the fact that it might not have been made by her, but HER HUSBAND instead. Click through to get the whole story.
The Quilt Show Puzzle: Will You Dance With Me?
"Dance Of The Wallflowers" by Libby Williamson

Dance Of The Wallflowers
is one of Libby's rope quilts and is about three girls at a junior high dance, with the girls lined up on one side and the boys lined up on the other. The three figures in the quilt are the girls, with one of them representing Libby (although she doesn't know which one), as they wait at the punch bowl nervously for their chance to dance.

See more of Libby's quilts in How to Use Fabric Panels, Create Wonky Fabric Portraits, and Make One-of-a-Kind Rope Quilts with Libby Williamson.
