The Quilt Show Puzzle: Out Of the Shadows
"Shadow Liberty" by Sarah Bond
Shadow Liberty began as a color exercise for Sarah, who wanted to see which color combinations she liked best. Once she found that she liked the grayscale options, she decided to transform half of her color blocks into grayscale. It's namesake is from the New York Beauty block, also known as Lady Liberty, and the Shadow portion is a social commentary on the fact that the liberty experienced by some people in America is not the same as the liberty experienced by others, it's just a shadow.
See more of Sarah's quilts in Learn to Quilt in Monochrome and Technicolor with Sarah Bond.
