Featured Quilt - Second Place Group Quilts at Paducah 2024
Elements by BeeSewcial won Second Place - Group Quilts (Sponsored by the Grace Company) at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2024. This abstract quilt was created by the collective talents of Stephanie Ruyle, Leanne Chahley, Karen Foster, M-R Charbonneau, Felicity Ronaghan, Kari Vojtechovsky, Christine Perrigo, and Sharyl Sheppard, who comprise the group BeeSewcial. Of the quilt, they say, "Conceived and pieced on a long weekend retreat in the Montana mountains this quilt is our take on the ever-changing patterns of a Montana summer - bright sunny days with expansive blue skies followed by driving rain with snow on the higher mountain peaks. The color palette was chosen by the group in advance, and the quilting further highlights the weather theme with an improv forecast map."
As for the quilting itself, "Christine Perrigo designed an original weather forecast quilt pattern and quilted it with her computer guided long arm machine." |

Cindy Wiens Finds Inspiration Wherever She Looks |
|
|
|
From Furniture to Fabric, Anything Can Become a New Design
As the daughter of a pastor, Cindy Wiens spent many hours in church which offered time for observing patterns and designs that caught her eye that would then be sketched on the church bulletin. As an adult, Cindy continues to observe patterns in acoustic tiles, upholstery, carpeting, or a parishioner’s tie, that are often interpreted into a quilt design. In our latest show we look at her quilts, including one which was accepted because they mistakenly thought the back was the front.

Learn To Reuse What We Already Have
Presented by SAQA: "Natalya Khorover is motivated by plastic pollution and overconsumption. She strives to use materials that would be condemned to the landfill and uses stitching and sewing to bring her artwork to life. Let’s talk about how to start creating a brand new artwork and exploring working in a series. There are so many approaches to this for traditional artists, but what if you are a repurposed media artist like us? What can help you start off on the right foot?"
Register today and watch when this episode airs this Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 2 PM EDT.

"October Sky" by Bethanne Nemesh
Bethanne writes about her quilt, October Sky, "This is the third in a series of silk dupioni quilts done in my pictographic quilting style. I love everything about a Pennsylvania fall... the colors, the smells, the harvest and all the busy critters. With this quilt, I tried to capture that feeling using all original hand drawn motifs that are free-motion quilted. The beaded details are tiny appliqué tubes individually stuffed with beads and hand tied off. The center medallion and binding feature handmade beaded piping. Derwent Inktese pencils were used on parts of the quilt to create shading." October Sky was deemed a National Quilting Association Masterpiece Quilt in 2015.
