Featured Quilt - APQS Best Movable Machine Workmanship Award at Paducah 2023
Harlequinade by Beckey Prior, and quilted by Jackie Brown, won the APQS Best Movable Machine Workmanship Award at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2023. Not a quilt to rest on its laurels, this is the third consecutive year that Beckey's quilt has taken home a major award. Last year it won Best of Show at Road to California 2022, and before that First Place - Pictorial at Houston International Quilt Festival in 2021.
Beckey's quilt is "Inspired by Venetian Carnival masks and commedia del'arte characters," and "features the antics of Harlequin, the trickster, who has his own ideas about freedom and fun!" Take a
look for yourself and see why this fun-loving quilt keeps winning so many awards!

Karen Turner's Intuitive Daily Stitching Project Creates a Year-Long Embroidered Tapestry
"How Do You Measure, Measure a Year?"
Some quilters get their quilting fix by working on
a project one step at a time day after day. Karen Turner has taken that concept to the next level with her Intuitive Daily Stitching where she "marks the passage of time through embroidery stitches" and "adds thread marks to fabric to chronicle each day." Don't understand the concept? Click through and find out how Karen stitched on a single tapestry everyday for a whole year to create an amazing embroidered work.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Sampler with a "Modern" Twist
"Modern Sampler" by Sue Nickels and Pat Holly
Sue and her sister Pat Holly have done
retreats over the years and each one has a theme. Modern Sampler was born out of one of those retreats where the theme was, what else, samplers. She and Pat wanted to have a Modern version of the traditional sampler design, so Sue did straight line, circle wedge, and small half-circle ruler quilting on it to deviate it from the normal design. Sue estimates that the quilt is about a fifty-fifty split between ruler work and free-motion quilting, which she does after the structure of the ruler work is complete.
