Featured Quilt - Second Place in the Small Wall Quilts: Quilter’s Choice at Paducah 2023
Picatso: The Art Thief by Nikki Hill has won numerous awards over the last year and a half. Besides winning Second Place in the Small Wall Quilts: Quilter’s Choice (sponsored by Janome America; Longarm) category at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2023 most recently, it also took home Second Place - Wall Quilts – Stationary Machine Quilted at Daytona Beach 2023, and Second Place in the Art Quilt category of the 2022 Jacksonville Quiltfest. Nikki's work was featured as part of an article in the June/July 2022 issue of Arbus, an arts magazine in Jacksonville.
In a case of art imitating art, Nikki's quilt is based on Le Pigeon Aux Petits Pois by Picasso and other pieces lost from the Paris Museum of Modern Art in 2010. You'll stand back and admire this quilt just as you would a painting from that same museum because, to the naked eye, it is indistinguishable from one until you see the details up close.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Kicking Up "Space Dust"

"Space Dust" by Tula Pink
Space Dust is a quilt that Tula made
for herself as a color exercise. It has 144 different-shaped triangles along with 144 individual fabrics. She pieced the triangles together until they worked, with no real plan in mind, and once finished she felt the shape looked like a meteor. So Tula and her longarm quilter, Angela Walters, quilted some jet fuel packs at the bottom, an alien in one of the triangles, and a little ladder to get in and access the meteor/ship itself (because how else would you get in).
See more of Tula's quilts in How to Build a Color Scheme and How to Fussy Cut with Tula Pink | Longarm Quilting with Karen Marchetti.
