Featured Quilt - Susan Cleveland's APQS Judges' Recognition Award at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2024

Confetti by Diana S. Fox recently received an APQS Judges' Recognition Award from Susan Cleveland at the 2024 AQS QuiltWeek in Paducah. While prestigious in its own right, it holds special meaning to us here at The Quilt Show that Diana got this award, as it was given from one of our treasured past guests of the show to one of our most recent.

As for the quilt itself, Confetti is Diana's tribute to the idea that we have something to celebrate every day in life. When she originally finished the quilt, Diana felt that it came out a little boring and that it didn't have enough oomph, so she decided to put a little bit of hand stitching on it. Cut to 250 hours and however many thousands of stitches later, Diana was satisfied and decided it was now finished. As a result, Confetti also won First Place in the Handwork category (Sponsored by Sulky) at Quiltcon 2023 last year. Congratulations Diana!

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Machine Quilted Magic

"Beaded Lanterns" by Christa Watson

Unlike many of the quilts that Christa had made before that feature fun and bright print fabrics, Beaded Lanterns is made with solids. Christa says that if you really want the quilting you do to show and provide a contrast that pops, then you should quilt on solid fabrics like she did with Beaded Lanterns. Specifically for this piece, she quilted using free-motion quilting, walking foot quilting, and other designs utilizing a custom quilting plan in different areas of the quilt to really give it that wow factor.
