Featured Quilt - Second Place - Small Wall Quilts: Hand Quilted at Paducah 2023

Paramecium Aurelia (Amoeba) by Jackie Perry won Second Place - Small Wall Quilts: Hand Quilted (Sponsored by Martelli Enterprises) at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2023. The quilt takes its name and shape from "unicellular organisms belonging to the genus Paramecium of the phylum Ciliophora" While the scientific nature of its title may go over a few people's heads, the craftsmanship and detail put into every stitch will be lost on no one. Take a look at the detail photo and just try and count all the stitches you see. You'll probably get lost after the first thousand or so.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Time For An "Ice-Cream Party"

"Flamingo Ice-Cream Party" by Rachaeldaisy

Flamingo Ice-Cream Party, as one would expect, often gets a lot of comments on its name. When Rachaeldaisy was naming it, she was entering it into a quilt show the night before, trying to make the deadline again, and was coming up with a name. Thinking "Happy Stars" or "Colorful Stars" initially, in the end, she just thought "pink flamingo ice cream" and the rest is history. Why, you may ask, did that thought pop into her head? Well, in one of the fabrics in the quilt, there is a tiny little flamingo and he's selling ice cream, and thus its fun name was born.
