Featured Quilt - "A Heart Full of Love"
Masako Sanada's quilt, When Everyone's Heart Blooms, stopped us in our tracks at Houston in 2018. It is a masterpiece in piecing with every point perfection. The mandala "flowers" are made up of layers of appliqué, which makes them look like they are blooming. The hand quilting and beaded piping along the border highlight the design. Masako's quilt is made up of kimono and futon fabrics along with silk and cotton. It was displayed as part of the Balanced Piecing and Appliqué exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.

Made from a cream sari that Julia found at the free table at the San Francisco Quilt Guild, Sari Not Sari features the gold border from the sari and all the red in the quilt is made from red neckties. Julia's advice for anyone who wants to start quilting with neckties is to like red, because many come in red. As a result, Julia raided her red necktie stash to complete this quilt.
