Featured Quilt - Familial Love Shared Through Fairy Tales

Dear Mommy, Tell Me A Fairytale About My Beloved Country Ukraine! by Natalia Lashko was featured at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah 2024 as part of the Quilts from Ukraine: Natalia Lashko and Illia Lashko Exhibit.

The exhibit was described as such: "This collection comprises artistic quilts and straw embroidery. All quilts are hand crafted and feature original designs. Ideas stem from various sources, resulting in each piece being crafted in a unique style. The creators hold a profound love for Ukraine; their creations are inspired by beloved Ukrainian folk songs and folklore, particularly from the region of Podilia."

Natalia depicts her love for Ukraine beautifully as it shows a Ukrainian mother embracing her daughter dreaming for a brighter future ahead of them like those found in their favorite children's fairy tales.

Low Stress Ruler Work on a Domestic Machine with Michelle de Groot

How To Get Ready For Ruler Work

Michelle de Groot discusses the ins and outs of free motion machine feet and what to consider when purchasing a hopping foot for your personal machine. She shares a set of affordable rulers (swirl, bubbles, hearts, meander) she designed after learning that many quilters are hesitant to do their own quilting. The channels in the ruler allow the foot to securely move along while also providing the quilter confidence.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: "Vintage" Vehicle Fun

"Vintage Tin" by Meg Hawkey

Vintage Tin was inspired by an idea from Meg's son. He told her that she needed to design a quilt for men, and his suggestion was to do something that included motorcycles. Not being the motorcycle type, and wanting to have an interest in the images she draws for her quilts, Meg thought she would include antique motorcycles, old cars, and automobile related ephemera like oil cans and license plates. With her husband having shown street rods in the past, Meg also knew these were pictures she could include of some street rods being sold and on display as part of the central images of the quilt.
