Featured Quilt - Best of Show Traditional / Innovative at the South African International Quilt Festival 2024

Gracious Blues by Claire Wallace won Best of Show at the South African International Quilt Festival. It took Claire more than two years to make. She spent a few hundred hours on the hand appliqué alone and more than 60 hours to longarm quilt. The quilt is a tribute to Annie du Toi and is inspired by Delft tiles. We love that she used the Apliquick method to create the appliqué shapes and let's not forget those little bitty circles.

If you'd like to know more about the Apliquick method and how to apply it your work, watch Rosa Rojas demonstrate the tools and process right here on The Quilt Show in Learn to Use Apliquick Tools with Rosa Rojas | Add Texture to Your Quilt with a Twisted Thread Chain.

Once you know how to do it, get yourself some Apliquick Tools in The Quilt Show store and try your hand at making your own project using Apliquick.

Her Universe Fashion Show 2023

Designer Looks Inspired by the Entertainment You Love

Comic Con 2024 begins tomorrow, and with it a cavalcade of pop culture centric fans, collectors, designers, costumers, and more will descend upon San Diego. One of the central hubs where those designers will meet will be at the Her Universe Fashion Show, a geek couture, as in not a costume, fashion show inspired by pop culture. This year's show will take place Thursday, July 25, 2024, but in the meantime you can watch last year's show in its entirety, where the theme was fandom and fashion through 100 years of Disney.

"Summer Splash" Has Begun!

Did You Catch the First Class of Summer Splash?

Now is the time to get started learning new techniques so you can stitch up this lovely patchwork sampler, Summer Splash created by the Stash Bandit herself, Diane Harris.

Not quite miniature, but definitely diminutive, these little blocks will have you coming back for more. The cuteness of stars, trees, Flying Geese and Dresden Plates set the tone for learning in a short series of lessons in just three months. By the end you'll have new skills and a fine finish!

Kits are still available in both the Summer version and Spicy Autumn, buy one now and get that first lesson under your belt. All classes are recorded so you can view them at your leisure.

The Quilt Show Puzzle: Clear "Skies" Ahead

"Blue Skies" by Bonnie K. Hunter

Bonnie has a passion for string quilts. If she has a scrap of fabric that is at least three-fourths of an inch wide, she will put it in a box relegated for string pieces. Strings are just narrow strips of fabric that are maybe too wide to do anything else with, but you can sew them together and cut them apart as fabric, and this is what she did to create Blue Skies. Bonnie used a wide variety of string pieces of blues that range from turquoise to navy and yellows that go from dark gold to white to establish the color palette and look of this quilt.
