Featured Quilt - Latifah's Scrappy Quilt Raises the Roof

TQS guest Latifah Saafir had her own exhibit this year at Quiltcon 2022. One of the quilts featured there was Room Without a Roof, named after a line from Pharrell's song Happy. Latifah considers this quilt the only type of scrap quilt that she would make, using bias tape scraps she had collected.

She writes, "One of the only kinds of scrap quilts you'll find me making is a bias tape scrap quilt. And it's a surprise to no one that the clamshell shape shows up once again in my work. With the clam shapes being formed organically, this quilt is a combination of bias tape Improv and Scrappy - two things that don't usually show up in my work."

And be on the the lookout in a future newsletter for a quilt that someone created by taking the Latifah Saafir bias strip challenge and putting their own unique spin on the scrap quilt.
The Making of the Rose Dress for Alexander McQueen
Follow Head of Atelier Judy Halil in this Step-By-Step Demonstration

This is an incredibly beautiful dress, "one of the centerpieces of the Roses installation: the swirling red Rose dress by Sarah Burton from the Autumn/Winter 2019 collection." What is even more incredible is watching it being created by someone with "mad" sewing and draping skills. We can't figure out how they know how to draft the pattern and put it together, but it's fun to watch them do it.
Quilters' Save Our Stories with Suzanne Marshall
Suzanne's Story Is Super to Hear

Ricky Tims teaches us time and again every other week on The Quilt Show, but who taught Ricky Tims? That would be Suzanne Marshall, who is the subject of this week's interview from the Quilt Alliance's Quilters' Save Our Stories (QSOS) program. In it, Suzanne discusses her quilt, Bed Bugs, and "how she began quilting and her growth as a professional quilter."

In The Store - Snag Repair Needles By Clover
A Useful Tool To Get Out of a Snag

Clover's Snag Repair Needles are a great way to repair fabric snags, with a slightly rounded point and textured ends to easily grip loose threads and pull them through to the underside of fabric.

Snag Repair Needles work great on cotton, linens, silks, synthetic fibers, and blends.
The Quilt Show Puzzle: Not Enough Fabric? Improvise!
"Bargello" by Mary McCauley

Bargello was Mary's first quilt. Short on the number of strips to finish the quilt, Mary added bars where there were missing pieces because she didn"t want to make another strip set. After making the quilt, she discovered pop up work which she associated with her Bargello quilt. Noticing the similarities between the two, she decided to create her own pop up work out of fabric inspired by this quilt.
