Featured Quilt - Her Grandma Didn't Take a Back Seat

You'll love this quilt, The Epitome of Luxury, from the New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Roaring Twenties Exhibit at The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY by Karen Watts, of Mayhill, New Mexico.

Karen writes, "My inspiration came from a photo of my Grandparents, Ruth and Carroll Melke, sitting in a car in 1927. The inscription on the back noted that the car was an Imperial 80. When I looked up info about the car it was obvious that Chrysler was very proud of this car! I decided to create my quilt as an advertising poster and used the clamshell block to design an art deco background. The photo shows my Grandmother at the wheel and this was not simply a pose. She did all the driving in the family!"

The Quilt Show Puzzle: On The "Contrary"

"Not So Contrary" by Kellie Beckwith

Kellie loves No So Contrary as it was the quilt that had been rolling around in her brain for over twenty years. She had seen a quilt similar to it in the book Northern Comfort: New England's Early Quilts 1780-1850, which in turn inspired her quilt based on the coloring and style of block. The block used in the older quilt was the Contrary Wife block, but Kellie's quillt features an alternative to that block, hence the name Not So Contrary.
